Read bills of lading to determine assignment details and inspect loads to ensure cargo is secure, notifying warehouse if rebuilding is required. Inventory goods, secure cargo with blocks, chains, binders, or tarps, and maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions following crew signals. Operate truck cab computers, CB radios, phones, or GPS equipment to exchange information with bases and supervisors. Check all load-related documentation for completeness, couple or uncouple trailers by adjusting jack positions and connecting air or electrical lines, and verify trailer conditions after unloading. Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage; maintain logs of working hours or vehicle service status; and perform basic maintenance tasks like adding oil, fuel, or radiator fluid. Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment when required.
