Read bills of lading to determine assignment details, inspect loads for cargo security, and inventory goods to be moved. Secure cargo using blocks, chains, binders, or tarps, and maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions following crew signals. Operate truck cab computers, CB radios, and GPS equipment to exchange information with bases and supervisors. Couple or uncouple trailers by adjusting jack positions and connecting air or electrical lines. Check vehicles for mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment issues, reporting defects, accidents, or violations immediately. Maintain logs of working hours and vehicle service status, performing basic maintenance tasks like adding oil or fuel. Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment when required.
