Job Summary
Provide safe, reliable, courteous, and efficient transportation service for residents to and from various locations such as appointments, activities, medical facilities, and other destinations. Assist residents in and out of the vehicle using the wheelchair lift or stairs as needed; open and close doors; and load/unload walkers and wheelchairs. Ensure resident safety and satisfaction, accounting for all residents when leaving or returning. Prepare the van/bus for operation and coordinate necessary vehicle maintenance. May verify that vehicle license plates, inspection tags, and insurance cards are current and displayed per local/state policy. Follow transportation safety procedures and maintain a current driving license to perform services. Assist in resident programs and activities as needed and build positive relationships with residents through friendly conversation and support during trips.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- A valid state driver's license (a CDL license may be required per state or local regulations)
- Passenger endorsement (if required by state regulations)
- At least three (3) years of driving experience and a clean driving history
- At least one (1) year of previous experience driving a passenger vehicle, preferably in a healthcare or senior living setting
- Experience in operating large vehicles or an equivalent combination of experience and training
- Excellent customer service skills and a professional, friendly, and patient demeanor
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills, patience, and commitment to treating our residents with the utmost respect
