Job Summary
Driver, Client Transportation and Meals on Wheels provides regular transportation for clients from homes to designated locations in Lunenburg County (with some longer trips to Halifax/Kentville) and delivers frozen meals. Responsibilities include safe transport in an accessible vehicle, maintaining certification, vehicle safety and maintenance, assisting clients and securing equipment, supporting in office tasks (packing/unpacking meal orders), upholding confidentiality, adhering to VON policies, and contributing to team-based service delivery. Requires high school diploma, at least one year of experience with seniors/disabled adults, ability to handle vehicle restraints, ability to lift 35 pounds, reliable vehicle with valid G license and clean driving record, and background checks (CRCs, Vulnerable Sector/Child Abuse Registry). French is an asset. Schedule is part-time (0.8 FTE) with 60 hours bi-weekly, daytime, in-person in Nova Scotia locations (Bridgewater, Lunenburg, Mahone Bay). Other duties as assigned and adherence to OHSA and safety policies.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Minimum of one year of experience working with seniors and adults with disabilities
- Experience with, and physically capable of, handling vehicle restraints
- Able to work with accessible equipment (e.g., wheelchairs, walkers)
- Reliable, dependable, and flexible
- Good verbal communication skills
- Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 35 pounds
- Physical activity including lifting, bending, standing, walking, and climbing stairs
- Must have reliable vehicle and valid driver’s permit with a clean driver’s abstract (annual check)
- Must have valid G class driver’s license
- Provide proof of required insurance
- Criminal Records Check (original copy) required at start
- Vulnerable Sector Search and/or Child Abuse Registry Check required
