Job Summary
Respond promptly to dispatched AAA roadside assistance calls by verifying vehicle locations, concerns, and tow destinations before arrival. Perform services including vehicle towing, jump starts, flat tire changes, fuel delivery, lockouts, and battery testing while safely operating flatbed and wheel-lift tow trucks. Conduct thorough vehicle inspections before and after transport, document pre-existing damage, and complete all required steps within dispatch software and mobile applications. Maintain inventory of equipment, perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and report maintenance issues immediately. Provide courteous, professional service during every customer interaction, explain charges, and maintain a calm demeanor in stressful roadside situations. Follow all OSHA, California, CHP, and FMCSA safety requirements, wear required PPE, and utilize proper traffic control procedures while working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 25 years of age
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, evenings, nights, and on-call shifts as scheduled
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to safely operate automatic and manual transmission vehicles
- Ability to use smartphones, GPS navigation, dispatch software, and electronic documentation systems
- Lift up to 75 pounds
- Frequently push, pull, bend, kneel, squat, climb, and crawl
- Stand and walk for extended periods
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Work safely near moving traffic on highways and mountain roads
- Enter and exit tow trucks multiple times throughout each shift
- Strong defensive driving skills
- Safe towing and vehicle securement practices
- Basic automotive diagnostics
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Time management and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently
- Problem-solving under pressure
- Excellent situational awareness and safety judgment
Desired Qualifications
- Previous towing or roadside assistance experience
- AAA roadside assistance experience
- CHP Tow Operator certification
- Automotive repair or mechanical experience
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) (not required for all positions)
- ASE certifications or vocational automotive training
