Job Summary
Operate directional drilling and construction equipment to locate predetermined bore paths while safely avoiding underground utilities and obstacles. Load, unload, inspect, and maintain heavy machinery, support vehicles, and trailers. Read construction plans and specifications to coordinate drilling activities and assist with conduit placement, potholing, and trench support. Communicate with supervisors and crew regarding project progress and jobsite safety. Requires valid driver's license, minimum one year of drilling experience, and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Travel potential is 10–25% for overnight site visits.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Minimum 1 year of prior drilling or locating experience in underground utility construction
- Experience operating heavy equipment near active utilities
- Ability to safely operate drilling equipment and related heavy machinery
- Ability to read and understand construction plans and specifications
- Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, and company safety regulations
- Knowledge of basic computer skills and shoring methods
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, climb, and work outdoors for extended periods
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and around heavy equipment and machinery
- Ability to wear required PPE, including safety boots, safety glasses, hardhat, and additional safety gear as required
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen, and MVR
- Travel Potential: 10–25% (overnight travel to various sites as needed)
Desired Qualifications
- CDL with tanker endorsement or willingness to obtain
- DOT Medical Card or willingness to obtain
- Experience with Ditch Witch and Vermeer equipment
- Advanced certifications such as OSHA 30
