Drill & Blast Lead

Job Summary
Drill and Blast Lead responsible for strategic planning, technical oversight, execution, and continuous improvement of all drilling and blasting activities in an open-pit mine. Provide leadership to drill and blast supervision and technical teams, ensure regulatory compliance, optimize blast performance and costs, and align drill and blast outcomes with mine production, geotechnical, and downstream processing requirements. Accountable for blast quality, dilution control, fragmentation, wall stability, and continuous improvement of drill and blast practices. Leads safety governance, develops SOPs/JHAs, investigates blasting incidents, builds competency frameworks and training plans, and oversees budgets, KPIs, and technology adoption (e.g., electronic detonators, GPS drilling, data analytics). Requires strong knowledge of drilling methods (DTH, rotary, top-hammer), initiation systems, blasting software, and experience in leadership, safety, and cost control. Site-based camp at Eskay Creek Mine with a 15 days on/13 days off rotation; requires ability to work in remote conditions and extended shifts.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Valid British Columbia Blasting Ticket
- 10+ years of experience in drill & blast operations in open-pit, hard-rock mining
- 5+ years in a senior leadership or superintendent-level role
- Strong working knowledge of DTH, rotary, and/or top-hammer drilling
- Experience with electronic and non-electronic initiation systems
- Explosive products and blasting software
- Proven leadership in safety, production, and cost control
- Experience with RC drilling
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, rotations (days/nights), weekends, holidays, and overtime as required
- Capable of working in remote, rugged, and variable weather conditions
