Job Summary
Versatile heavy equipment operator and maintenance specialist for the City of Austin's Watershed Protection projects. Operates gas, diesel, and propane-powered machinery; performs concrete work, asphalt paving, erosion control, and landscape tasks; conducts preventive maintenance and safety inspections; manages traffic control with cones, signs, and barricades; documents daily activities and safety analyses; participates in on-the-job and skill-based training; responds to emergency weather events and incidents, ensuring projects are completed safely and to required standards. Requires valid Class A CDL and knowledge of TMUTCD; familiarity with storm water infrastructure and trench safety is preferred.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two (2) years of maintenance and/or construction experience, including 6 months experience in operation of heavy-duty equipment
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) (endorsements may be required within 120 days of hire)
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret blueprints and traffic control plans
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 90 pounds and outdoor work in various weather conditions
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Experience with traffic control setup and flagging is preferred
