Job Summary
Drainage Maintenance Worker III performs planful, skilled duties in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the city's storm water drainage system. The role supports a team, may serve as crew leader in the absence of a supervisor, and reports to Drainage Maintenance Worker IV. Responsibilities span reading blueprints and maps, establishing elevations and slope angles, excavating, installing and repairing lines and connections, operating equipment (including vactor truck, backhoe/track hoe, jackhammer, concrete saw, and loaders), and ensuring proper line bed compaction and final asphalt prep. The position involves hazardous spill containment, traffic control, emergency response, and potential advancement to higher levels through a defined career ladder. It requires safe operation of tools and equipment, adherence to safety procedures, and collaboration with team members to complete projects while maintaining records of time, materials, and equipment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Ability to read, write, do simple math and follow written and oral instructions
- Some knowledge of methods, tools and materials used in general maintenance and repair work
- Ability to obtain within six months of hire Utah Commercial Driver License, Class A
- Drainage Maintenance Worker II requires twelve months of experience in storm water system maintenance or six months as Drainage Maintenance Worker I
- Drainage Maintenance Worker III requires three years of experience in storm water systems maintenance or two years as Drainage Maintenance Worker II
- Must be able to operate transit and level for calculation of slopes and angles, read and interpret blueprints, maps and construction plans
- Must be able to perform heavy labor and respond to emergencies
- Possession of a valid Utah Commercial Driver License, Class A
