Job Summary
EDL Subject Matter Expert to support Dragonfly's entry, descent, and landing subsystem: provide technical oversight from integration and test through post-launch operations, ensure verifiable requirements, develop and execute aliveness/functional/performance/phasing tests for EDL software/hardware, coordinate integration/test schedules, and assist in cruise-phase health verification and post-launch readiness. Ideal candidate has MS in aerospace engineering, 15+ years in EDL flight projects, familiarity with TPS materials (PICA, HEET, RCC variants), experience with EDL modeling/analysis tools and wind-tunnel/arc-jet test facilities, previous lead-engineer roles, demonstrated leadership, and the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance; PhD and direct NASA EDL mission experience are a plus. The role is based at APL with a compensation package including potential for relocation benefits and locality allowances. Required Qualifications
- MS in Aerospace Engineering or related technical field
- At least 15 years of general experience with EDL flight projects or closely related technologies/analyses
- Familiarity with TPS materials (PICA, SLA-561V, C/C, RCC)
- Experience with modeling/analysis tools and test facilities (wind tunnels, arc jets)
- Experience as a Lead Engineer (Phase Lead, Subsystem Lead, System Lead)
- Demonstrated leadership in a dynamic team environment
- Ability to obtain Top Secret security clearance; U.S. citizenship
- Ability to advocate for EDL needs to ensure mission success
