Job Summary
Drafter / CAD Technician supports Murphy Maritime’s marine construction, fabrication, permitting, and project development by creating accurate 2D drawings, 3D models, fabrication details, layout drawings, and prototype components. Converts field measurements, sketches, redlines, customer concepts, and internal direction into practical working designs used for estimating, permitting, fabrication, and field installation. Primary responsibilities include preparing and revising 2D AutoCAD drawings for docks, gangways, steel components, pile layouts, framing plans, site plans, and shop drawings; developing 3D models of structures and components; taking precise measurements from the field and integrating them into drawings; operating and maintaining company 3D printers; creating 3D-printed prototypes and templates; and supporting permitting, proposals, fabrication, and construction planning with drawings and layouts. Strong attention to detail, clear communication with project teams, and the ability to balance speed with accuracy are essential.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or comparable CAD software.
- Experience with 3D modeling software such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks, SketchUp, Inventor, Rhino, or similar.
- Experience operating 3D printers.
- Ability to take precise measurements and transfer them into drawings, models, and working designs.
- Ability to read and create technical drawings, dimensions, layouts, and basic construction details.
- Basic understanding of measurement, scale, geometry, materials, and construction layout.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, accuracy, and revision control.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and drawing revisions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with office staff, fabricators, project managers, and field crews.
