Job Summary
Inspect and repair meters, streets, drainage systems, and sewer systems while operating heavy construction and power equipment like backhoes, snowplows, and jetter trucks. Perform labor-intensive tasks including pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole cleaning, and water main repairs. Respond to complaints regarding leaks or pressure loss, contact residents for service notifications, and clear streets of snow and ice. Maintain records, inspect tools, and drive trucks to haul materials. Work under close supervision in outdoor conditions with occasional overtime, reporting defects to the supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
- Two (2) years of experience relating to construction, maintenance, or repair
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience
- Some knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in maintenance, construction, and repair activities
- Skill in operation of some of the listed tools and equipment
- Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time
- Ability to work safely
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the public
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions
- A valid state driver's license and CDL certification or the ability to obtain one
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance
