Job Summary
Volunteer role providing ground support for the DPW HEaT department during the Burning Man event, assisting HEaT operators with field tasks, setup/strike of staff camp, and related duties. Responsibilities include supporting operators with rigging gear tasks, transporting relief operators, upkeep of HEaT fleet vehicles, maintaining PPE and safety standards per ANSI/OSHA guidelines, directing participants to proper protocols, attending daily briefings and staff meetings, and contributing to LNT and waste disposal plans. The position requires relocation to Gerlach, Nevada for August–September, with a minimum 3-week commitment and no time off during the event week. On-site physical work in extreme desert conditions, with potential for heavy lifting and remote coordination using two-way radios.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to relocate temporarily to work on location in Nevada
- Experience working on projects in remote wilderness and/or desert environment
- Capable of working in an extreme environment including drastic temperature changes
- Proficient with remote forms of communication (i.e. – two way radios)
- Knowledge of Burning Man Project and its policies and operations
- Ability to attend daily briefings and meetings; comply with staff policies and behavioral standards
