Job Summary
Member will train as a birthing doula with the Simkin Center at Bastyr University. Member serves clients by providing education and assistance throughout pregnancy and birth experience. Meets with clients during pregnancy, provides support during labor, and visits postpartum. Requires independence and ability to handle a demanding on-call schedule. AmeriCorps stipend and Education Award provided; 10-11 month full-time term of service with required trainings and schedule coordination. Responsibilities include scheduling appointments, navigating health-system barriers, referring clients to address needs, providing emotional, physical, moral, and educational support during labor and postpartum, attending prenatal meetings, remaining with the mother during labor, and performing home visits post-discharge. Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred. Must maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and strong communication; basic computer skills and DONA International Standards of Practice adherence. Service environment involves group office setting and hospital births, with potential for on-site home visits. Special requirements include TB test, background checks, and WA state license; on-time stipend distribution and educational award missions under AmeriCorps.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma Required
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
- Must have a current TB test (within the past year)
- Must receive a satisfactory background check from WATCH and all CNCS background check requirements
- Must have a valid Washington State License and maintain automobile insurance
- Experience with Windows Office programs preferred
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines
