Job Summary
Observe mail in USPS facilities to identify hazardous, restricted, or perishable items for examination and isolation per local protocols. Research information from public, non-public, and USPS databases while assisting postal inspectors in obtaining documentation and locating related parcels. Perform manual and analytical tasks to identify and remove nonmailable matter, including data entry and reviewing business records to ensure the safety of the mail stream. Support interdiction process activities by recording and tracking mail throughout the process. Participate in the setup and breakdown of equipment in work areas.
Required Qualifications
- Moderate Background Investigation (MBI)
- Occasional support outside of core working hours
- Intermittent weekend support
- Mission dependent schedule
- Travel may be required
- ISA I-D level
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of five years' conducting similar activities
- General knowledge of the United States Postal Service regulations
- General knowledge of federal statutes
- Prior experience identifying Hazardous, Restricted, or Perishable Mail
- Knowledge of collecting and documenting material which may be used in administrative, civil, or criminal proceedings
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing sufficient to express thoughts and ideas to a variety of audiences
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, computer and internet functions
- Proficiency conducting research on the internet and commercial as well as public databases
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal direct supervision
- Experience supporting the preparation of a final administrative, civil, or criminal proceedings work product
- Ability to travel to other postal facilities for related/connected activities
- Ability to read and write English
- Must be a U.S Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident
- Successfully passing a background investigation including drug screening
- Residency requirement - 3 consecutive years in the last 5 years
- Physically able to perform efficiently the duties of the position, which require arduous exertion involving prolonged standing, walking, bending and reaching, climbing ladders, and may involve the handling of heavy containers of mail and parcels weighing up to 70 pounds
- Must submit to tests by a person or agency designated by the company for evidence of the presence of alcohol and/or illegal drugs
Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity with USPS Plant & Distribution Center Operations and USPS Databases
- Demonstrated knowledge of utilizing open-source intelligence
- Familiarity of USPS's Domestic Mail Manual and Publication 52
