Hybrid · Otaniemi, Uusimaa, Finland
Job Summary
Doctoral Researcher position focusing on fatigue modelling of WAAM components. Develops understanding of WAAM-induced geometry/material imperfections, identifies repeating surface features, and validates with fatigue experiments. Builds high-fidelity FE models, links surface/microstructural heterogeneity to fatigue initiation and life, and contributes to international guidelines for fatigue design. Embedded in EU FATDED project within Advanced Marine Structures group; on-campus work with hybrid arrangement at Aalto University Otaniemi (Espoo), Finland. Includes access to state-of-the-art facilities, supervision, and a doctoral-researcher salary.
Required Qualifications

- Strong background in fatigue, solid and structural mechanics, materials behavior, or additive manufacturing
- Finite element analysis, meshing complex geometries, and experimental data interpretation for validation
- Strong command of English and the ability to work primarily on campus
