Job Summary

Doctoral Researcher position at Aalto University in Espoo, Finland focusing on developing AI-based and quantum-inspired optimization methods for sustainable energy systems. Primary application area is green maritime energy systems, including ship and port energy systems with integrated electricity, heat, hydrogen, storage, and flexible loads. The role involves designing and implementing AI-based models and quantum-inspired optimization methods for system modelling, planning, scheduling, and operation; applying methods to case studies; and preparing scientific publications. The research is conducted within the Multi-energy System Planning and Operation Research Group, with collaboration across academic and industrial partners, and requires programming in Python, MATLAB, or Julia and strong communication skills. The position is fully funded, with opportunities for doctoral courses, research training, teaching experience, and international collaboration; the main workplace is the Otaniemi campus in Espoo, Finland.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering, energy systems, automation, or a related field
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a research team
