Job Summary
Doctoral researcher position focusing on AI-based and quantum-inspired methods for modelling, optimization, and operation of sustainable energy systems, with main application in green maritime energy systems (ship and port energy systems with integrated electricity, heat, hydrogen, storage, and flexible loads). Responsibilities include developing mathematical and data-driven models, designing optimization and decision-making methods for planning, scheduling, and operation, exploring quantum-inspired optimization for energy-system problems, applying methods to case studies, implementing algorithms in Python/MATLAB/Julia, analyzing simulation data, and preparing publications. Collaboration with the Multi-energy System Planning and Operation Research Group at Aalto University, supervision by Zhengmao Li, and engagement with academic and industrial partners; emphasis on independent research and dissemination through international journals and conferences. The position is fully funded and based at Otaniemi campus in Espoo, Finland, within a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering, energy systems, automation, or a related field
- Strong background in energy-system modelling, mathematical optimization, machine learning, reinforcement learning, or data-driven decision-making
- Experience with programming and computational modelling (Python, MATLAB, Julia or similar)
