Job Summary
Move trailers throughout the property and use appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including pallet jacks and forklifts. Efficiently load freight a minimum of one day per week while operating a hostler in all weather conditions. Safely operate heavy equipment by moving, positioning, and connecting/disconnecting converter dollies with an average weight of approximately 128 lbs. Use mobile handheld devices to scan and track shipments while adhering to company safety policies. Lift objects frequently up to 50 lbs and occasionally greater than 70 lbs, reaching, bending, climbing, pushing, pulling, twisting, squatting, and kneeling. Work extended periods standing and walking on a loading dock that may be slippery and not climate-controlled.
Required Qualifications
- Be at least 18 years of age
- A valid driver's license
- Able to do basic math calculations, with and without a calculator
- To pass a company-paid, post-offer, pre-hire (physical essential functions) test
- Available to work a variety of shifts due to varying freight volumes, including days, evenings, nights and weekends
- Tractor/trailer experience (3 axle tractor, 53' trailer)
- Dock/warehouse experience in the transportation industry
- Forklift experience in a freight/less-than-truckload environment
- Experience loading and unloading trailers
- Basic written and verbal communication skills
- Desire to succeed with strong attention to detail
- Lift objects of various shapes, sizes and weights to 50 lbs. frequently and greater than 70 lbs. occasionally
- Reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat and kneel
- Walk and stand for extended periods on a loading dock that is not climate-controlled and may be slippery
