Job Summary
Create blocking plans for intact or damaged vessels using hired divers and interpret drawings to order materials and write reports. Ensure all vessels in custody are berthed and secured under changing weather conditions while maintaining syncrolift railways and associated equipment in good repair. Lead crews to obtain top quality workmanship and efficiency, operating drydock equipment, cradle jacks, forklifts, and winches to moor vessels and perform rigging duties. Build keel and bilge blocks, cradles, and shoring for supporting ships in dry dock, marine railways, or building docks using woodworking hand and power tools. Adhere to safety policy and wear personal protective equipment including hard hat, safety glasses, and steel toe boots. As an employee-owned business, Bay Ship & Yacht Co. provides dry-docking and repair services to commercial and government vessels on the San Francisco Bay waterfront.
Required Qualifications
- at least eight (8) years of maritime experience in trade
- some technical training and experience in the fundamentals of dry-dock operations, ensuring safe docking and undocking of vessels using systems like floating drydocks, Syncrolift and marine railways
- an understanding of math calculations
- knowledge of and the ability to use and train the use of hand tools and instruments associated with the department
- ability to work effectively with others
- ability to work independently to complete responsibilities
- ability to comprehend and follow complex instructions
