Dock Supervisor

Job Summary

Oversee safe and efficient dock operations for all terminal staff, including sorting, handling, loading, and unloading freight. Direct and evaluate dockworkers to ensure proper equipment use, adherence to procedures, and compliance with Department of Transportation standards and government regulations. Conduct daily inspections, train staff on safety practices and operational performance, and review reports to improve terminal efficiency. Promote a safe, clean, and organized environment while verifying shipments and completing shipping documents. Requires standing, lifting up to 100 pounds, and working varying schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays. Candidates must be at least 18 with a high school diploma, authorized to work in the U.S., and possess strong English communication skills. Prior supervisory experience and knowledge of DOT regulations are preferred.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • Ability to read, write, communicate and comprehend the English language
  • Ability to converse with co-workers and members of the general public
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions as well as governmental regulations
  • Ability to respond to questions and inquiries from management and government representatives
  • Ability to accurately complete various shipping documents, reports and records required of the position
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoops, and lift throughout the shift
  • Ability to frequently lift, pushing, pulling, or carrying freight up to 100 pounds
  • Ability to team lift or use mechanical assistance for heavier items
  • Ability to regularly use hands and arms for handling freight, operating pallet jacks, and securing loads
  • Ability to climb on and off forklifts, trailers, and dock platforms safely
  • Adequate vision and hearing (with or without correction) to operate equipment, read labels, and follow safety signals
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures and weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow
  • Ability to work varying schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays based on operational demands

Desired Qualifications

  • 5+ years of warehouse, freight, dock, forklift, or pallet jack experience
  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Strong knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and safety procedures
  • Forklift certification or hazmat training
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in verifying shipments
