Job Summary
Divisional Director of Engineering leads strategic engineering for the division across a fleet of luxury, heritage rail carriages, defining the technical vision, managing long-range plans, and guiding capital improvement, fleet modernization, and depot/maintenance strategies. Oversees the full engineering lifecycle from design to decommissioning, ensuring safety, reliability, and adherence to rail standards while optimizing efficiency and guest experience. Responsibilities include budget development and resource allocation, cross‐functional leadership of multiple engineering teams, risk management, quality control, regulatory compliance, and driving innovation in a luxury travel context. Requires deep rail systems knowledge, strong leadership, stakeholder collaboration, and willingness to travel to operational sites and shipyards; English, French, and Italian language skills preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- 15+ years of progressive engineering leadership experience, with significant rail environment experience
- Proven track record of managing complex engineering projects and leading multidisciplinary teams
- Extensive knowledge of rail systems, engineering, and technical specifications for interoperability (engines, rolling stock, infrastructure)
- Strong financial acumen with experience in budget development and management
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to make effective decisions under pressure
- Willingness to travel to various operational sites, shipyards, and manufacturing facilities
- Languages: English, French, Italian (positive)
- Commercial acumen and ability to drive profitable growth
