Job Summary
Division Leader, Community Planning responsible for overseeing land-use planning, long-range development, and development approvals. Provide strategic direction, supervise and mentor a team of planning professionals, and formulate/update policies and procedures related to planning and development. Manage the Division's annual budget and oversee major planning initiatives including Official Plans and Secondary Plans. Communicate effectively with developers, investors, and the community; provide expert planning advice to councils, committees, and other authorities. Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field, 5+ years of progressive municipal planning experience, 5+ years in leadership, and a RPP designation (or active pursuit) with CIP membership; strong knowledge of Ontario planning legislation and best practices; demonstrated leadership, coaching, and mentoring abilities; excellent written and verbal communication; ability to build relationships with stakeholders; proficient in project management and data-driven recommendations; must possess a clear police record. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Environmental Studies, or a related field
- 5+ years of progressive experience in professional planning within a municipal setting
- 5+ years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role
- Registered Professional Planner (RPP) designation in Ontario, or actively working towards obtaining one
- Full membership or eligibility for full membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP)
- Strong knowledge of Ontario planning legislation, regulations, and best practices
- Proven leadership skills, including coaching, mentoring, and performance evaluation
- Excellent communication, written and verbal, with experience presenting to public forums
- Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Proficient in project management principles and practices
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to make data-driven recommendations
- Must possess a clear police record
