Job Summary
Administer the facility dive program under the direction of the General Curator and the Dive Control Board, ensuring compliance with AZA, OSHA, and industry standards. Conduct required dive training, in-water skill evaluations, and diver checkouts while maintaining up-to-date electronic records on operations and equipment. Write, maintain, and update dive-related SOPs, emergency procedures, and the facility Dive Manual. Coordinate annual emergency dive drills and oversee safety readiness through pre-dive planning, hazard identification, and equipment inspections. Manage the diving schedule of Life Sciences staff and monitor inventory to control costs. Perform daily dive requirements and report animal health or habitat concerns to Animal Care Managers and the General Curator.
Required Qualifications
- Two years + in an assisted animal husbandry position
- One year + in a similar management role
- PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) or equivalent
- Instructor level First Aid, Emergency O2 and AED certification
- Strong technical skills related to dive equipment
- Ability to read, listen and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to access and accurately input information using a moderately complex computer system
- Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations
- Ability to perform the physical, visual and hearing requirements in the working conditions above

Desired Qualifications
- Working proficiency with basic hand and power tools
- Dive program leadership in an aquarium
- Experience in the care of flora and fauna in a public aquarium setting

- Competency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience managing large teams
