Job Summary
Answer daily calls or texts from the Substitute Coordinator between 7:00-8:00 AM to receive morning assignments for any of the ten school buildings. Report to the assigned location at least 15 minutes before school starts, then implement existing lesson plans and instruct assigned classes while monitoring student behavior and needs. Collect and assign work, maintain accurate attendance and progress records, and leave detailed notes for the absent teacher. Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities, and immediately report any injuries, accidents, or discipline issues. Collaborate with colleagues, participate in meetings, and debrief with the absent educator to relay material coverage. Complete annual Safe Schools Training and maintain professional relationships with students and faculty.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Illinois Substitute License or Professional Educator License
- Must have willingness and ability to get to any of the school buildings (UECS, Leal, Thomas Paine, Wiley, King, Dr. Williams, Yankee Ridge, UMS, UHS (including Wesley Foundation), or Gerber) within 30 minutes of learning the day's assignment
- Must be willing and have the transportation to be relocated, on occasion, from one building to another building during the day when needed
- Must have phone and/or email connection to receive assignments in the morning between 7:00 - 8:00 AM
