Job Summary
PBX Operator serving as the hospital’s central communications hub: manages high-volume inbound/outbound calls on a multiline telephone system, operates overhead paging and two-way radio equipment, and uses hospital computer systems to locate patients. Requires knowledge of hospital emergency codes, patient confidentiality, and the ability to prioritize and maintain composure under pressure. Responsibilities include maintaining and distributing the hospital call directory, coordinating with departments for seamless communication, and delivering a courteous, professional experience to patients, families, and staff. Preferred familiarity with Epic EHR, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a team-focused approach to ensure high levels of patient/customer satisfaction.
Required Qualifications
- High School or GED
- Experience with hospital communications environment preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of hospital policies/procedures and patient confidentiality
