District Nurse (RN)

Job Summary
Provide direct nursing care on campus using professional assessment skills and the nursing process, develop and implement individualized healthcare plans (IHPs), and deliver health counseling and instruction to students. Act as liaison between school personnel, families, healthcare professionals, and the community; notify parents of accidents or illness and secure emergency medical care as needed. Administer medications per district policy, support mandatory screening programs, and may perform home visits to assist with student health needs. Requires RN license, AED/CPR certification, and 2 years of nursing experience; strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program
- Valid registered nurse license (RN) from the Texas Board of Nursing or from a state participating in the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC)
- Current automatic external defibrillator (AED) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificates
- Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defects
- Ability to implement policies and procedures
- Knowledge of basic first aid
- Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- 2 years nursing experience

- Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans (IHPs) and evaluate outcomes of skilled and direct nursing care and procedures for medically fragile students
- Serve as health advocate for students
- Ensure that medications are administered to students according to district policy and procedures
- Establish and implement effective procedures for carrying out mandatory screening programs
- May make home visits to help with student health problems as necessary
