Job Summary
Remove, repair, replace, and install various sizes and types of gas piping while investigating and repairing gas odor complaints. Operate pavement breaking equipment, backhoes, and dump trucks; perform walking leak surveys, underground utility mark outs, and drilling and tapping of gas mains. Respond to trouble calls within 30 minutes at the reporting base and accept emergency restoration assignments outside normal hours. Requires a valid driver's license, DOT medical card, and ability to lift up to 60 lbs. in extreme weather and confined spaces. External candidates must complete approved EEI testing.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Valid driver's license
- Clean driving record
- Ability to operate a commercial motor vehicle
- Meeting physical and qualification requirements for a DOT Medical Card
- Ability to wear a respirator or self-contained breathing apparatus
- Ability to perform excavation duties including the use of pavement breaker and shovels
- Access to construction sites that are non-handicapped accessible
- Ability to move and lift material weighing up to 60 lbs
- Ability to perform on-call emergency response duties
- Ability to be available at reporting base within approximately 30 minutes during trouble call assignment
- Subject to work shift work
- Subject to a pre-assignment drug test if currently in a non-safety sensitive position
- Required to become a member of the union
Desired Qualifications
- Two years of related experience for the helper level
- Holding a Commercial Driver's License
