Job Summary
Conduct daily line construction and maintenance on energized and de-energized distribution systems, including stringing, sagging, and dead-ending conductors. Perform Job Task Safety Analyses (JTSA) and troubleshoot distribution system problems while safely operating machinery such as digger derricks and bucket trucks. Install and remove poles, cover materials, and mechanical jumpers, and inspect rubber goods and PPE for safety compliance. Work independently with limited supervision, adhering to all safety policies and handling materials up to 60 pounds. May relocate as work requirements demand and attend training for new processes or storm restoration operations.
Required Qualifications
- received their training in an approved forty-two (42) month apprenticeship program or a certified testing program or must have nine (9) years of continuous line construction/maintenance experience
- working knowledge of all aspects of line work
- capability and expertise to work independently if required
- worked in the line industry as an apprentice lineman for at least 4 years
- Must be able to conduct a Job Task Safety Analysis (JTSA) as required
- Perform work in a safe manner on energized and de-energized distribution systems
- Capable of safely installing and removing cover up material
- Able to string, sag, and dead-end conductor
- Experienced in pole/tower climbing using fall protection systems
- Has the ability to troubleshoot problems on distribution systems
- Understands procedures to safely dig holes in the presence of underground utilities
- Able to safely set/replace poles (wooden, steel, concrete) on an energized distribution system
- Capable of safely performing a re-conductor job
- Understands minimum approach distances
- Capable of properly inspecting rubber goods, cover materials, and PPE
- Has the skill sets to safely operate a digger derrick and bucket truck
- Inspects, maintains company equipment, and trucks in safe working order
- Able to safely install and remove mechanical jumpers
- Experienced in identifying primary and secondary voltage on a circuit
- Understands safe heavy lifting and rigging procedures
- May be required to relocate as work requirements demand
- May be required to hold a valid class "B" commercial driver's license
- May be required to read and interpret blueprints
- Drives and operates conveyance machinery equipped with tools and materials to and from job site
- Adheres to all Company Safety and Health Policies
- May work in storm restoration operations to rebuild and/or repair damaged power systems
- May attend training classes or seminars to gather knowledge of new processes, safety regulations and/or refresher training
- Works with limited supervision
- Lifting and handling materials up to 60 pounds unassisted
- Capable of climbing wooden poles and towers
- Walking and working across uneven terrain
- Climbing on and off large trucks and equipment
- Exposure to hot and cold weather conditions
