Job Summary

Independently develop design and construction work packages for moderately complex electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 69 kV. Perform engineering calculations including structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions, and voltage drop assessments. Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles, while performing QA/QC reviews of work by other engineers for submittal to Clients. Coordinate across multiple internal areas including Supervision, Project Managers, and Technical Resources, and communicate with external customers, contractors, and municipal agencies. Perform field site assessments and scheduling appointments as needed, with regular travel to sites and customer meetings required. This role supports the Customer Engineering Department within Leidos' Power Delivery Services Team, focusing on delivering exceptional quality for Hawaiian Electric and Maui Electric utility systems.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Distribution Engineering
  • 2+ years of direct experience supporting Hawaiian Electric (HECO) or Maui Electric
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution
  • Experience with NESC Standards
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
  • Experience with Bluebeam and/or Adobe
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and construction sites
  • Ability to utilize personal vehicle
  • Overnight travel (15-25% travel)
  • Relocation to Maui

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with ESRI, ESIMS, SAP and GIS
  • Experience with distribution design tools such as Pole Foreman, Spida-Calc, O-Calc
  • Professional Engineer License (PE)
