Distribution Designer – Electric Utility

Job Summary
Prepare detailed design packages for overhead and underground electric distribution systems, including staking sheets, construction drawings, and work order packages using CAD and GIS platforms. Conduct field surveys and staking activities for new installations, upgrades, and maintenance projects while collecting GPS data and documenting existing utility facilities. Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and construction teams to ensure designs align with NESC standards, regulatory requirements, and client specifications. Support transformer sizing, voltage drop calculations, load balancing, and the preparation of bills of material and cost estimates. Maintain accurate project records and design quality while traveling throughout the assigned territory in Eastern and Central Pennsylvania.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, construction plans, utility maps, and electrical distribution drawings
- Working knowledge of electric distribution systems and utility construction practices
- Proficiency with CAD software
- Basic understanding of NESC and utility distribution design standards
- Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate design documentation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to travel throughout the assigned territory
Desired Qualifications
- Technical coursework in electric utility design, engineering technology, CAD, GIS, or a related field
- 1–3 years of experience in electric utility distribution design, drafting, fielding, construction, or a related utility environment
- Experience with overhead and underground electric distribution design
- Experience with AutoCAD, ArcGIS, MicroStation, GIS Distribution Design Studio, or similar utility design software
- Experience with field staking, GPS data collection, utility fielding, or construction inspection
- Knowledge of utility work management and design systems such as EFD, INFOR, or similar platforms
- Experience preparing bills of material, cost estimates, staking sheets, and construction work packages
- Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer-Aided Design, or a related discipline
