Distribution Design Engineer

Job Summary

Develop construction work packages for electric distribution and fiber systems using GIS, CAD, and work management systems. Perform engineering calculations including structural analysis, electric demand, transformer sizing, and protective device coordination. Conduct field investigations at various project locations throughout the area to support pole, guying, and cable pulling designs. Prepare forestry trimming requests, facilitate permit and right-of-way acquisition, develop bills of materials, and estimate costs. Interface with local clients and collaborate with disciplines including substation, protection, and civil structural teams. This 95-100% engineering role involves occasional administrative tasks and planning.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science in Engineering degree or Master's degree (EE or CE preferred)
  • 0+ years of prior relevant experience
  • Relevant experience is either working directly with an electric utility or an electric utility consulting company, performing design engineering
  • Must be comfortable in both a field office setting
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds
  • Must be able to walk up to 2 miles on unpaved surfaces
  • Candidate must have valid U.S. driver's license and provide their own reliable transportation
  • Local customer/job-related travel is anticipated and will be reimbursed at IRS approved rates

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC)
  • Familiarity with PoleForeman, SAP, Microstation, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Visio
  • Fundamentals of Engineer Certifications
