Distribution Design Engineer (Hybrid)

Job Summary

Identify improvements and major repair needs on the distribution system, assessing cost/benefit alternatives to prioritize circuit changes. Plan system improvements for assigned circuits, analyzing projected deficiencies like voltage and overloads while developing reliability alternatives. Conduct outage, voltage, and power quality investigations; engineer recloser and breaker settings; and provide support for switching and contingency plans. Create work requests in STORMS/AIMS, negotiate easements with customers, and evaluate proposed DG interconnection applications. Participate in emergency restoration efforts, major system reviews, and corrective action committees to prevent recurrence.

Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering
  • Must hold a valid motor vehicle operator's license
  • Must be able to work in a team environment
  • Must be available for weekend shifts
  • Must be available for emergency assignments outside of normal responsibilities, work hours and location
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs

Desired Qualifications

  • Two (2) to Five (5) years of equivalent experience in Energy Delivery

  • Ability to consider safety in all circuit analysis
  • Ability to support Account Executives with customer quality of service issues
  • Ability to make direct contact with customer and develop corrective actions
  • Ability to have nonexclusive, non-supervisory, storm restoration and emergency assignments
  • Ability to support Operations with distribution issues
  • Ability to review switching
  • Ability to develop contingency plans
  • Ability to prioritize work
  • Ability to monitor yellow tags
  • Ability to provide engineering support to Field Distribution Design
  • Ability to provide regulator and capacitor control settings for Electrical Maintenance
  • Ability to work with P&CE on developing Recloser and Breaker settings
  • Ability to be responsible for outage, voltage, and power quality investigations
  • Ability to participate in System Operation Review Committee (SORC) and engineer corrective action to prevent reoccurrence
  • Ability to provide reports as required
  • Ability to engineer, develop and present distribution projects to Operating Company Review Committee (OCRC) for approval
  • Ability to evaluate proposed DG interconnection applications
  • Ability to review and implement annual procedures
