Job Summary
Dispatchers needed in Winona County to perform skilled technical communications work, receiving and transmitting information, and dispatching public safety units via radio, telephone, and CAD. Responsibilities include answering calls, dispatching personnel and equipment, monitoring radio activities, entering and manipulating data in CAD, maintaining resource and referral data, and assisting in training new dispatchers. Required knowledge includes proficiency with Windows applications and the ability to work under general supervision, make independent decisions, and maintain professional communication with the public and agencies. Position starts at $29.20/hour with potential advancement to $38.87/hour and requires high school graduation, relevant experience or training, and successful completion of a probationary period and required certifications.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent
- Communications experience, electronics training, First Aid, CPR, or related experience or training
- Must pass background check
- Proficient use of CAD systems and related software
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Must successfully complete a nine-month probationary period
- Must pass the State Terminal Operators Certification Test within 6 months of hire
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to act decisively and use good judgment
- Ability to represent the organization to other agencies and citizens in a courteous, helpful, accurate and business-like manner
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with citizens and law enforcement partners
Desired Qualifications
- Must pass background check
- Must pass State Terminal Operators Certification Test within 6 months of hire
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Proficient use of computer software such as Microsoft Windows Applications: Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook
- Ability to act in a decisive manner and use good judgment
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with citizens, co-workers, teams from the County Sheriff’s Office, local law enforcement agencies, other community agencies and the public
- Must successfully complete a nine-month probationary period
- Ability to provide effective and truthful testimony in court
- First Aid, CPR, or any related communications or emergency response experience
