Job Summary
Respond to emergency and routine calls via telephone and radio, advising of bus staffing needs and arranging replacements. Operate a two-way radio console to communicate with drivers, staff, and transportation personnel while performing switchboard duties to route incoming calls and take detailed messages. Coordinate office, garage, and driver communications regarding staffing, substitutions, and daily operational adjustments. Manage all dispatch center communications, including emergencies, accidents, and breakdowns, using independent judgment to handle varying situations. Provide school bus transportation information to callers as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Experience in school bus operations/dispatcher related work
- Working knowledge of school bus operations
- Working knowledge of school locations
- Working knowledge of county roads
- Working knowledge of general geography
- Ability to adjust service schedules
- Ability to maintain records
- Ability to obtain and relay accurate information
- Ability to work well under pressure of deadlines
- Ability to operate two-way radio
- Ability to operate standard office equipment such as personal computer, cameras, fax machine, and multiple software applications
