Job Summary
Coordinate two-way radio and GPS communications to monitor drivers, respond to emergency calls, and assist off-route or lost vehicles using mapping software. Assign substitute drivers and attendants to route vacancies, answer internal and external telephone calls, and record driver absence notifications. Manage field trip logistics by coordinating with sponsors, posting emergency trips, and distributing route instructions and memos to drivers. Maintain all physical and computerized logs, worksheets, and reports related to dispatch operations. Perform bus driving duties as required and organize vehicle key boards and mailboxes. Work weekends on-call for all field trip drivers and coaches, communicating with sponsors, technicians, and emergency services as necessary.
Required Qualifications
- Must have a clear and valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritize effectively while maintaining composure and responding in an appropriate manner where customer service skills are evident
- Effective and professional telephone, radio, and communication skills
- Ability to give and receive both written and verbal instructions effectively and professionally
- Ability to read and understand documents including state/federal laws, district policy, and department procedures
- Ability to pass alcohol and drug tests, and annual physical
- Proficient map reading skills
- Proficient skills in operating a personal computer, including Microsoft Office applications
Desired Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) years' experience as a certified school bus driver preferred
