Job Summary
Dispatcher schedules and transmits drivers and equipment for transportation of materials, freight, service, or emergency repairs while ensuring compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental standards across multiple facilities. Responsibilities include using radio, telephone, or computer to relay assignments, compiling progress reports, coordinating with drivers to address questions or requests, organizing road testing for newly hired drivers, monitoring electronic logs for DOT compliance, coordinating maintenance and transfers of equipment, and supporting internal controls. Requires 3–5 years of related experience, familiarity with DOT regulations, and adherence to EH&S standards; physical ability for long periods of standing and walking, and readiness for variable workload and potential overtime.
Required Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar role or continued education in a related field
- Familiarity with DOT regulations
- Experience dispatching drivers to locations and communicating with drivers and the Logistics Manager
- Knowledge of Health, Safety & Environmental standards in metal recycling/auto parts industry
- Ability to monitor driver logs for DOT compliance
- Ability to coordinate maintenance and transfers of equipment
- Capacity to work under pressure and meet critical deadlines
