Job Summary
Dispatcher responsible for deployment and tracking of units and movement throughout the day per local System Status Management Plan. Broadcasts orders to crews regarding runs and emergencies. Operates radio, telephone, or computer equipment to relay information or orders. Under Emergency Medical Dispatch protocol, takes caller information, determines the nature of the run, dispatches emergent and non-emergent runs, and records pertinent information. Reports to Dispatch Supervisor or Communications Director. Requires high integrity, current state licensing/certification, and EM Dispatch certification. Must work effectively with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, multitask, read maps, and type at least 30 words per minute. Interacts professionally with patients, public safety personnel, medical staff, and the general public to reflect positively on the company. Preference for current EMT certification. Physical requirements include sustained sitting, use of phones/radios, and prolonged computer use.
Required Qualifications
- Currently licensed, certified or registered by the appropriate state agencies
- Currently certified in Emergency Medical Dispatch by MPDS or other appropriate organization
- Prefer previous or current certification as Emergency Medical Technician
- Must possess a high degree of personal integrity and responsibility
- Must have the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Must be able to manage multiple activities simultaneously
- Must have superior spatial orientation to read maps
- Must have good computer skills and be able to type at least 30 words per minute
- Must be able to interact professionally with patients, public safety personnel, medical staff
- Must demonstrate quality customer care
