Job Summary
Monitor courier dock access, direct ARUP couriers using mapping tools, and coordinate specimen pickups and deliveries to meet turnaround expectations. Receive inbound client orders, resolve logistical obstacles for building access and vehicle incidents, and document all routing assignments in the dispatch portal. Enforce safety guidelines, conduct equipment inspections, and proactively communicate critical updates via email, text, and phone to prevent service failures. This role operates on a 7-on/7-off Tuesday through Monday schedule from 8:30 PM to 7:00 AM with evening and weekend shift differentials. Candidates must hold a valid Utah driver's license, be 21 years old, and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills within a biohazard laboratory environment.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Utah Driver's License
- No moving violations within the previous two years
- No alcohol/drug-related violations on record with the Driver's License Division
- Must be 21 years old
- Must be able to help identify and prevent logistical obstacles before they arise or minimize those that do with time sensitive decisions and critical thinking skills
- Must be able to effectively communicate with concerned parties to prevent or resolve problems in a timely manner
- Must be familiar with the tools and resources (GML, Samsara, and route spreadsheets) for all courier routes
- Must be familiar with all computer programs required to complete duties (Salesforce, GML, ScanTrack, and Samsara)
- Must be able to communicate professionally to maintain customer service expectations
- Must be able to conduct inspection of fridge, freezer, bins, and yellow bag areas to ensure accurate placement and timely movement of specimens
- Must be able to document all routing, will calls, stats and other courier assignments in the dispatch portal
- Must be able to reconcile all pickup requests at end of each courier shift to ensure task completion
- Must be able to ensure proper use and care of ARUP company equipment
- Must be able to communicate frequently with professionals such as: ARUP clients or Account Executives, FedEx, contract couriers, and other ARUP departments such as Specimen Processing and Client Services
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective relationships with clinics and hospitals through professional and timely communications and inquiry response
- Must be able to engage vendors for STAT pickups as needed
- Must be able to coordinate with in-person customers at the Transportation desk, handling and sorting specimens for outbound delivery
- Must be able to coordinate with Internal department customers to inform them of specimen arrival patterns and workflow
- Must be able to direct ARUP couriers to utilizing mapping tools and software to meet Turnaround time (TAT) expectations
- Must be able to creatively problem solve including answering questions and trouble shoot problems for couriers, tracking down client contacts, building access, and other special instructions
- Must be able to proactively communicate 'Need to Know' information thru email, text, and phone calls
- Must be able to remain informed of changes and follow all required policies and procedures
- Must be able to continually look for ways to increase productivity
- Must be able to perform courier ride along as directed by Local Transportation Leads and Supervisor
- Must be able to submit Employee Improvement Tracking (EIT) requests for management review for deviations from policies and procedures
- Must be able to assign overtime as needed and notify the leads or supervisor
- Must be able to ensure staff and resources are utilized productively
- Must be able to assist with problem resolution for issues with specimens, vehicle incidents, and clients
- Must be able to institute computer downtime procedures when appropriate
- Must be able to enforce all safety guidelines and policies including evacuation procedures
- Must be able to attend meetings including the Transportation Department's Weekly Huddle when on shift and the quarterly Local Transportation staff meeting whether on shift or not
- Must be able to monitor and control building access for visitors or vendors and couriers picking up and delivering at the courier dock
- Must be able to take department responsibility when Leads or Supervisors or Managers are not on duty
- Must be able to exceed customer on-time pick-up and delivery expectations
- Must be able to conduct proactive analysis to prevent service failures
- Must be able to handle and management of difficult situations
- Must be able to provide consistent and professional communications; effective, prompt, and courteous communications with respect to difficult situations
- Must be able to stoop: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist
- Must be able to reach: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction
- Must be able to move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Must be able to frequently communicate with others
- Must be able to use personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies
- Must be able to conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures
- Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- Must be able to pick, pinch, type or otherwise work, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling
- Must have close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance
- Must have perception of and ability to distinguish colors
