Job Summary
Serve as the first point of contact for all incoming 9-1-1 calls, conducting medical and fire interrogations, providing pre-arrival instructions, and accurately entering information into the computer system. Coordinate with Dispatchers II and III under the guidance of the on-duty Communications Supervisor while assuring compliance with all policies, procedures, and protocols of the American Ambulance Employee Handbook. Effectively communicate with other agencies and the public, maintain workstation cleanliness, and operate assigned equipment as trained. Maintain all necessary certifications, including Basic Cardiac Life Support and Emergency Medical Dispatcher credentials, and complete mandatory Continuing Education sessions. Work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, adhering to strict performance metrics for call handling times and accuracy.
Required Qualifications
- Current CCEMSA EMS Dispatcher
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification – Provider or Instructor
- Current Emergency Medical Dispatcher certification
- Current Emergency Fire Dispatcher certification
- Be able to sit for prolonged periods
- Be able to reach above shoulder level from a sitting position
- Be able to type >/= 30 wpm
- Be able to lift 30 lbs. to a height of three feet
- Be able to operate required equipment for up to twelve hours
- Be able to work indoors in a confined space
- Work any hours of the day and days of week
- Work with many different agencies
- Work closely with the public
- Work well with co-workers
- Work with tight deadlines under pressure
- Work irregular hours
- Be able to make quick judgments under pressure
- Be confidential with privileged information
