Job Summary
Oversee all dispatching personnel within the communications center by directing staff on unit deployment, incoming calls, and administrative tasks such as vehicle breakdowns and supply requests. Broadcast assignments to transport crews, operate radio and computer equipment to relay orders, and respond promptly to service calls by obtaining intake information and providing pre-arrival instructions per Emergency Medical Dispatch protocols. Ensure the Computer Aided Dispatch console, phone system, and radio systems are ready for use, perform daily inspections of the work area for cleanliness, and maintain security of the Dispatch Center and company property. Maintain appropriate communications with company units, managers, support staff, and healthcare facilities via radio, data link, pager, or cell phone while tracking units throughout the day per System Status Posting Plans. Act as a Communications Training Officer assisting in the evaluation, orientation, and training of new dispatch staff, and serve as a first stop for staff regarding personnel issues. Accept responsibility for recertification as an EMT and other required licenses, ensuring full compliance with company policies, HIPAA regulations, and local laws.
Required Qualifications
- All Dispatch Call Taker and Dispatcher requirements
- Must have the ability to function as a leader evaluating, coaching, training and directing dispatch staff
- The ability to reach, push and pull
- The ability to sit for long periods of time
- The ability to use phones and radios to communicate with callers, crews and other staff
- The ability to use mouse or keyboard to input data into computer over long periods of time
- The ability to view graphic and text data on multiple computer screens for long periods of times
- The ability to complete all job duties during any and all hours of the day and night
