Job Summary
Manage staffing by interviewing, hiring, training, and resolving personnel issues while ensuring compliance with state and federal laws. Direct delivery drivers to provide accurate, on-time deliveries by taking calls, managing truck schedules on the daily receiving board, and optimizing routes based on length, trip purpose, and freight requirements. Onboard new drivers, manage equipment and expenses including repairs, and coordinate helpers for scheduled deliveries. Record departure times, destinations, cargo, and return expectations. Communicate professionally with customers to expedite or locate missing, misrouted, or damaged products and arrange pickups. Establish and adjust service routes based on market demands, arrange backhauls, and ensure adherence to the safety program and DOT regulations. Develop and manage goals for trucking operation efficiency and profitability.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Three to five years related experience
- Training that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
- Any combination of education, training, or experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Flexibility and readiness to adapt within a fast-paced working environment while maintaining quality results and achieving operational delivery goals
- Strong communication skills
- Comfortability engaging and leading individual and team discussions and meetings
- Ability to articulate direction and expectations to teammates in a clear and concise manner
- Ability to re-prioritize as necessary throughout the day with minimal supervision and effectively communicate changes with the team
- Knowledge and understanding of safety and transportation requirements
- Knowledge and understanding of DOT compliance
- Knowledge and understanding of ELD equipment use
- Knowledge and understanding of route optimization
- Knowledge and understanding of delivery efficiencies
- Ability to lift/move/manipulate up to 50 pounds
- Ability to occasionally team lift up to 100 pounds
- Peripheral vision
