Job Summary
Set tables, prepare and serve beverages, and deliver plated food to resident tables efficiently. Clear tables after meals, assist kitchen staff with side work, and clean the entire dining room section including sweeping and equipment. Plate desserts, fill condiment containers, and ensure adequate supplies are on hand by ordering directly or forwarding lists to the supervisor. Respond to customer preferences and communicate clearly with elderly residents regarding food and drink needs. Assist with special functions such as picnics and sundae parties, and keep the supervisor informed of any concerns.
Required Qualifications
- Clean appearance
- Ability to focus on details and multitask as situations demand
- Some knowledge of health hazards in food service and precautionary measures
- Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to move quickly in and out of tables while delivering plated food
- Ability to work with hot and sharp objects safely
- Ability to maintain hygienic appearance and keep food and related items sanitary
- Ability to communicate clearly with elderly residents about needs and wants for more food or drinks
- Ability to lift 30 pounds
- Ability to concentrate during regular, noisy periods
- Ability to work holidays on a rotating basis
- Ability to work in kitchen and apartment building setting
- Ability to work with hands in water
- Exposure to cleaning agents
Desired Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- At least one year experience in a food service position
- Experience with the elderly
- Strong interpersonal skills including having a helpful and patient nature
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing, particularly during emergencies
- Fluency in other languages
- Familiarity with other cultures
