Disaster Recovery Specialist

Job Summary
Disaster Recovery Specialist designs, implements, operates, and continuously improves enterprise-grade backup, recovery, and disaster recovery capabilities for AWS-based SaaS environments, ensuring defined RPO/RTO targets and alignment with NIST 800-53 controls. Roles include multi-region DR strategy, testing and validation of recovery, documentation of SOPs, and active engagement with customers, auditors, and executives to communicate risk and recovery posture. Requires 7+ years of DR/backup experience, hands-on AWS cloud DR expertise, government/regulatory experience, Terraform/IaC and strong communication skills.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in Disaster Recovery, Backup, or Business Continuity roles
- Hands-on experience designing DR solutions in AWS and/or other major cloud providers (Azure, GCP)
- Experience supporting state, county, or federal government customers
- Experience working in regulated environments (Justice & Public Safety strongly preferred)
- Technical skills in backup and recovery architectures, snapshot-based and replication-based recovery, cross-region and cross-account DR strategies
- AWS expertise (EC2, EBS, RDS, S3, DynamoDB, IAM, CloudWatch)
- Infrastructure as Code experience (Terraform preferred)
- Understanding of networking and security fundamentals (VPCs, VPNs, encryption, IAM)
- Strong written and verbal communication; executive presence
