Job Summary
Disabled Veterans’ Outreach Program specialist provides individualized career services and facilitates placements for Veterans, prioritizing service to disabled Veterans, integrated into the WorkOne / American Job Center network. Responsibilities include enrolling Veterans with significant barriers into a case-management system, interviewing, completing objective assessments, creating an individualized employment plan (IEP), determining appropriate career routes and necessary services, conducting outreach to identify new Veterans, visiting communities to reach Veterans, referring Veterans to partner training services, and collaborating with Veteran organizations and grant programs to establish resources for Veterans’ needs. Requires ability to articulate success in VA program offerings, strong customer service, and proficient use of basic computer tools. A HS diploma or equivalent is required; training per DOL-VETS is expected within 18 months. Supervisory responsibilities may be assigned based on agency needs. Knowledge of WorkOne / American Job Center networks and 38 U.S.C. 4103A(a) context is relevant.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE) required
- Active Duty service of 180 days and VA service-connected disability rating (preferred)
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Ability to communicate effectively and interview Veterans
- Ability to learn VA program offerings by the State of Indiana and local job centers
- Ability to provide quality customer service
- Ability to conduct internet research (labor market information, veteran programs, social media)
