Job Summary
Conduct counseling and advocacy for seniors and adults with disabilities by providing accurate information on private and government benefit programs, assisting with applications for Medical Assistance, SSI, and Social Security Disability Insurance, and performing necessary research and investigations. Maintain confidential files, follow up until resolution, and make appropriate referrals for employment and other services while consulting with program attorneys on legal interpretations. Develop accessible services through home visits, community presentations, and newsletter development, and coordinate with agencies including the Social Security Administration and Health and Human Services. Evaluate service effectiveness, identify system-level concerns, and provide training to help clients develop self-advocacy skills.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in a health or human services related field
- at least one year of experience working with adults with developmental or physical disabilities or mental illness
- Possession of a valid driver's license
- access to an insured vehicle for work-related travel
