Job Summary
Dirt Work Superintendent leads field earthwork operations for large-scale site development projects in Comfort, TX, overseeing planning, scheduling, production tracking, budgeting, and coordination with project managers, subcontractors, inspectors, and clients. Responsibilities include managing crews and equipment (dozers, excavators, scrapers, haul trucks), reviewing plans and surveying/layout coordination, executing change orders, monitoring safety and profitability, and ensuring projects mobilize through completion on complex terrains (mass grading, substation pads, right-of-way work) with regional travel. Requires 5+ years’ experience in earthwork/sitework/heavy civil construction, proven independent project leadership, budgeting and cost-control capabilities, and strong ability to read plans, manage crews, and coordinate with stakeholders; experience in bidding/estimating or running a business is a strong plus.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a Superintendent in earthwork, sitework, or heavy civil construction
- Proven ability to run projects independently from mobilization through completion
- Experience reading and interpreting plans, specs, and grading details
- Familiarity with surveying/layout coordination
- Hands-on knowledge of heavy equipment operations (preferred)
- Experience with budgeting, cost control, and forecasting
- Experience managing crews, foremen, subcontractors; coordinating with clients and inspectors
- Ability to plan, schedule, and execute work to meet production targets and timelines
- Strong ownership and leadership in dynamic field environments
- Ability to identify issues, solve problems, and keep projects moving forward
- Experience with bidding, estimating, or running own business is a strong plus
