Job Summary
The Director of Urban and Community Forestry will lead and oversee a $5 million USFS grant program, provide technical assistance to passthrough grant recipients, promote the implementation of the SFI Urban and Community Forest Sustainability Standard with municipalities, universities, and corporations, develop strategic partnerships, pursue funding opportunities for program growth, serve as the subject-matter expert on urban forestry, guide program growth and standards revision, collaborate with communications to highlight certified organizations, and manage relationships with consultants. The role supports travel within the US and Canada (up to 40%), involves limited direct supervisory responsibility, and requires a forestry-related degree with substantial urban forestry experience and ISA credentials.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in forestry, urban forestry, natural resources, or related field
- At least 5 years of urban forestry experience with a vast network within the urban forestry community
- Sector credentials such as ISA Certified Arborist, ISA Certified Urban Forest Professional, and/or ISA Board-Certified Master Arborist
- At least 3 years of experience managing a U.S. federal or state grant program
- Knowledge of local urban and community forest needs on a national scale
- Familiarity with forest certification standards and auditing process (preferred)
- Demonstrated experience in business development, program promotion and strategic relationship building (preferred)
- Bilingualism or professional language proficiency is a plus
