Job Summary
Director of the University Chamber Orchestra (UChO) provides artistic leadership, musical instruction, performance guidance, and coaching for student, faculty/staff, and community musicians. Responsibilities include planning 2+ balanced concert programs per autumn and spring, training and rehearsing the ensemble and cast for annual Gilbert and Sullivan production, leading weekly rehearsals and public performances, providing instructional materials and specific assignments, assessing progress, offering technical/musical feedback, recruiting substitute musicians as needed, coordinating collaborations with other ensembles, arranging guest artists, scheduling and overseeing rehearsals, preparing materials in advance, and managing budgetary/resources with staff coordination. Requirements include a college/university degree, 2-5 years of related experience; preferred Master of Arts in music and substantive conducting training; strong communication, organizational skills, and ability to work with diverse student musicians. This is a part-time, non-benefits eligible position (~16 hours/week) with evening rehearsals and specific seasonal schedule; includes application materials such as resume, cover letter, and conducting videos.
