Job Summary
Director, Trade Shop oversees approximately 70 trade staff (e.g., stationary engineers, oilers, plumbers, carpenters, electricians, cement masons, locksmiths, sheet metal workers, painters, laborers) and coordinates cost estimating, scheduling, and resource allocation to ensure timely completion of assignments and compliance with agency standards. Responsibilities include inspecting work across trades, supervising in-house and contract staff, guiding staff on trade-related issues, addressing building violations, supporting bureau-wide operational consistency, enforcing management controls, preparing written reports on repairs and open issues, and ensuring fire safety and regulatory compliance. The role involves overseeing emergency responses, coordination with other departments, and ensuring facilities maintenance aligns with Federal, State, and City regulations. Hours are Monday through Friday, 7am–3pm. The position is based in New York City with in-person remote option only.
Required Qualifications
- Eight years of full-time experience in construction, repair, alteration and/or rehabilitation of multiple dwellings, commercial, industrial or public buildings in the capacity of general contractor, superintendent of construction, procurement specialist, evaluator responsible for cost estimation, or as a field supervisor or as an inspector, at least 18 months of which must have been in a supervisory or administrative capacity involving responsibility for a large number of buildings
- Education and/or experience which is equivalent to the above; Education in an accredited college leading toward a baccalaureate degree in engineering, architecture, engineering technology or a closely related field will be accepted on a year-for-year basis up to four years; however, all candidates must possess at least 18 months of the specialized supervisory or administrative experience described above.
